The Gordon C. Willis Memorial Scholarship Fund (formerly known as the Eastern Diocese Scholarship Fund) was prayerfully conceived in 1988 as a means to assist our young people in their pursuit of academic excellence. A scholarship committee was appointed and assigned the task of developing the rules and the scholarship application. Dr. George Thompson served as the first president of the scholarship fund.
In July 1993 following the sudden death of Deacon Gordon C. Willis, it was proposed to the body that the name of the scholarship fund be changed to the Gordon C. Willis Memorial Scholarship in recognition of Brother Willis’ devotion and dedication to the work of the Lord.
The scholarship fund had a challenging beginning; however, the Lord’s blessings have allowed us to be consistent in awarding scholarships.
Please note starting 2015, if your local church does not contribute to the Gordon C. Willis Scholarship Fund, you are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.
This year’s application deadline is Wednesday Friday, June 21, 2019.

A Letter from the GCWM Scholarship Committee
The Gordon C. Willis Memorial Scholarship Fund (formerly known as the Eastern Diocese Scholarship Fund) was prayerfully conceived in 1988 to assist the Youth of the Eastern Diocese in their pursuit of academic excellence. A scholarship committee was appointed and assigned the task of developing the rules and the scholarship application. The late Dr. George Thompson, former Pastor of Gospel Light COCHUSA served as the first President of the scholarship fund.
In July 1993 following the sudden death of Deacon Gordon C. Willis, it was proposed to the body that the name of the scholarship fund be changed to the Gordon C. Willis Memorial Scholarship in recognition of Brother Willis’ devotion and dedication to the work of the Lord.
The scholarship fund had a challenging beginning; however, the Lord’s blessings have allowed us to be consistent in awarding many scholarships. We seek to support all young people throughout the Diocese in their collegiate endeavors.
In 2015, the committee voted to encourage financial participation from all the churches throughout the Eastern Diocese by enforcing a policy that states the local church must be a contributor for the youth of their church to be eligible.
The committee extends a heartfelt thank you for your participation as we press on towards the mark in the high-calling of Jesus Christ our Lord. We solicit your prayers and support that God may continue to bless this memorial scholarship program. We ask that all applicants be aware of the set deadlines and return the required documents listed on the Gordon C. Willis Memorial Scholarship Award checklist.
God Bless,
Missionary Bonita A. Brown
