History of the EDYC

The Eastern Diocese Youth Conference was started in 1968 by the visionary Dr. Samuel L. Kendrick from First Church of Christ (Holiness) Washington, D.C. The Youth Conference was created because during that time there was little to no involvement with youth in church ministry. Dr. Kendrick’s vision was to have a conference to give the youth an opportunity to be involved and play major roles in church programs while preparing them to be future church leaders. This conference afforded youth the opportunity to get involved in ministry. The first conference was held at First Church of Christ (Holiness), Washington, D.C. in 1968 under the leadership of the first President Bro. Edward Hicks, from First Church of Christ (Holiness), Norfolk, VA. Conferences were originally held at churches within the body. As God blessed the conference and it experienced tremendous growth, it was moved to hotels so that all participants could be adequately accommodated. Missionary Bonita Brown of New Life Christian Center Church of Christ (Holiness) is the current Youth Conference President. The Presiding Prelate of the Eastern Diocese is Bishop Maurice Nicholson Pastor of Future Church of Christ (Holiness) USA.
